We spent our Easter weekend camping in the lovely town of Beechworth. It is such a beautiful town, surrounded by lovely countryside and an amazing valley leading in to the Victorian Alpine region.
Beechworth holds the Golden Horseshoe Festival on the Easter weekend. The main streets are closed and full of animal farms, food stalls, shops, kids arts & crafts and festivities.
It was a weekend filled with long walks, playing, eating, drinking and riding our bikes between cheese shops and wineries. Unfortunately, it was also very cold. Next year, I promise to pack the thermals...
Autumn is a spectacular time to visit as the leaves are turning and the colours are amazing.
A few years ago we did the entire Murray to the Mountains rail trail (when we only had one child!). Now with two kids in tow we took it easy and spent the morning riding the newly opened section through Milawa and Oxley. Along the way we visited the Milawa Cheese Factory and Sam Miranda Winery.
Destination: Beechworth, 3 hours north of Melbourne via the Hume Highway
Accommodation: Lake Sambell Caravan Park
Activities: Walking, cycling, eating, beer & wine tasting/drinking, gourmet foods (cheese!), festival activities, history & culture
Surrounding towns: Milawa, Bright, Myrtleford, Stanley & Yackandandah
I hope you all had a lovely Easter. Over the weekend the weather has turned very cold here in Melbourne. Poor Mr N is walking around in pants with a good 10cm of socks showing. Time to pull out the 6 metres of cord and start making pants!!
